Election Day!

As you may know, yesterday was Election Day in the US of A.

I guess last “year,” I didn’t realize how crazy the whole thing was. This year, my mom had the TV turned to Election News from 6 until 10. No joke.

Since I don’t want to make this blog all political, I’ll just post some pictures I took in all the excitement!

Yippee!

Only at my school… mood lighting and elevator rides

Today in English class, my teacher told us to write a monologue about how we would feel if we lost a person that is important to us. She wrote what we were supposed to write about up on the board, and then she turned off a few of the overhead lights. “Mood lighting,” she said. “Strange,” I said.

Later, I noticed that the compost, recycling and garbage bins weren’t in their normal spot in our lounge, so I asked the dean of students person where they were. It turns out they were upstairs, by my English classroom (which I had noticed before, but I had just thought “oh cool, we got more bins!”) Well, being a good citizen and all (read: not wanting people to throw away recyclables – the horror), I volunteered to go get them. Mimi got the wonderful idea that we should take the Forbidden Elevator back downstairs, because it would be tricky to carry the huge bins down the stairs. I suggested closing all of the bags and then sliding down the stairs in the bins, but she vetoed that idea. Anyways, we got in the elevator with these huge bins, and THE DOORS STARTED CLOSING while Mimi was trying to shove the bins in the elevator. I pressed the “open front door button” but the door wouldn’t open. Lo and behold, I found the “open back door” button and it worked (why the elevator has two doors, I have no idea. There isn’t anywhere to go using the other door). When we were all safe and sound in the elevator, I pressed the “1” button, to get back downstairs. And that’s when I noticed it. The Basement Button. Who knew we even had a basement?! So today after school, two of my friends and I are going to take a trip down there… using the Forbidden Elevator of course… hopefully we won’t get in trouble…

Vivacious events…

Does that title even work? I feel like the word vivacious can’t describe a noun besides a person, but whatever…

Some good stuff that’s happening this week:

1. Yearbook class! I’m really enjoying making fun layouts for different grades and learning how to use Photoshop and Illustrator to make shapes… it’s harder than it looks.

2. My tea is being shipped! We don’t have very good tea in our house… Irish Breakfast and English Breakfast are good but I get tired of it really fast… currently I’m having chocolate mint tea that expired in August 2010… this is what it has come to.

3. My last barista class! This means I can work at a coffee shop now!

4. Scrapbook club! This already happened, and it was really fun to look at old pictures of me and my family! I also made lattes for some of the ladies there – using an espresso machine – good barista experience!

5. The weekend! I am so sick of school already… and it’s only been a few months. It’s weird, but days seem to go on forever but before you know it two months have gone by!

Until next time, Em 🙂

First time linking up!

I have good news!

Today  I went to the eye doctor to get my yearly checkup. This is not normally a fun experience – my eyes are still dilated 1.5 hours later. Not fun. I can barely read my computer screen. And when I say I can barely read it, I mean I can’t. At all.

Erm… sorry if there are any typos.

Anyways, my good news! I’m getting contacts! And we all know what this means… I can ski, and actually see while doing it (usually I don’t wear glasses with my goggles, which means I pretty much can’t see anything)… and I can also wear fun glasses and sunglasses… something I can’t do right now! And if I get tired of wearing the contacts, I can always switch back to my glasses. Which is good, because I actually really like them. My glasses are black and rectangular and have a swirly-pattern on the side.

Also… I can wear my contacts and glasses at the same time… so I know how other people feel when they wear my glasses! Don’t ask why, but this is a dream of mine. I have no explanation.

Until next time, Em 🙂

Partyin’ partyin’ yeah!

Please forgive me for that terrible title… I have super good news and I feel hyper and yeah. What’s the great news, you ask?

Well, you know that camera that I was going to get? The super nice one that actually has a manual setting and good macro (that doesn’t focus on the background)…

Well I found one on craigslist (a place where people sell there stuff, sorta like Amazon but local and you meet somewhere to pick it up – it’s not sketch I promise), and THEY REPLIED TO MY EMAIL so my dad’s getting it tomorrow! And don’t worry, he’s meeting the owner of the camera in a public place so (hopefully) he won’t get abducted or anything crazy like that!

So of course, I have to personalize this super duper awesome camera that will soon be in my hands and all mine (once I pay back my parents)…

I found some super cool camera straps on etsy, but I do NOT want to pay $23 for something that I could easily make and personalize it way more than anyone else could!

So I searched up some DIY camera strap blog posts, and I found two great ones!

A fabric one, that’s super cool and I have THE PERFECT fabric for…

and a painted canvas one, that’s even more awesome than the fabric one! Well, maybe not as awesome as my toaster fabric (literally has toasters on it), but still pretty dang awesome!

I found this ad while looking for layouts/color combos for Yearbook, and I love it so much it’s not even funny

I’m going to use these colors to make the painted canvas one, and I’m super excited!

I’ll post a DIY tutorial for both of them when I finish, and you should definitely check it out! I’ll even use my new camera to take the pictures so it’ll look professional and stuff!

Until next time, Em 🙂
